‘Joga Bonito’ and the Beautiful Game: Hooliganism Is Here To Stay

Firms, football hooliganism and middle-aged flab a dying art? Think again!

Ali Sami Yen Stadium

Football hooliganism has no specific legal definition. The term was created by the media, the tabloid press in particular, in the mid-1960s. Since then, they have been extremely flexible and indeterminate in ascribing the “hooligan” label to different incidents. The perpetuation of football hooliganism can be linked to the high level of drama, aggression and petit mal that overcomes players in the 90 minutes of rigid warfare on the football field.

Ibrahimovic: “Pep Reminds me of Gandhi”

Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to pass comment on his former coach, Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola, on this occasion bizarrely comparing him to former political figure Mahatma Gandhi.
The Swede is currently on loan in Serie A from the Blaugrana, and has previously been vocal in his criticism of his former boss, branding the tactician “a philosopher”.

Ibrahamovic

Now Ibrahimovic, who netted the winning goal in the derby clash against Inter on Sunday evening, was speaking to Scandinavian broadcaster TV10, and said of Guardiola: “With the way he dresses and talks, he always want to look like a philosopher. He reminds me a bit of Mahatma Gandhi when he is preparing his team.
“People say that he has won six trophies, but I could have won six trophies as the coach of that team. You can play without a coach – to me, they are the best team in the world.”
The striker also insisted the full reasoning behind his departure from the Camp Nou club has not yet been fully explained to him, continuing: “My farewell was a personal matter. It cannot be due to my quality, because there was never any discussion on that part. You cannot be the leader, have dialogue with 20 players, but with the 21st look the other way.”
