Why Higuain is perfect for Arsenal

Another summer has come and once again Arsenal are being linked with a number of world-class stars and despite their statements to the contrary, they still appear to be reluctant to splash out the required money to bring the biggest names to North London.

Having almost paid off the debt left by the building of the Emirates Stadium, they now seemingly have money to burn and over the last few weeks rumours have been rife that they are on the verge of signing Gonzalo Higuain.

Although the Gunners have reportedly had a £30million bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez rejected (in Paddy Power’s player transfer betting specials, Arsenal are 11/4 to be Suarez’s next permanent club), Higuain is a far more realistic target and wouldn’t come with half the baggage that the Uruguayan would bring following a string of controversial incidents since his move to England.

In contrast the Argentine is a true team player, happy to keep his opinions to himself as long as he is playing, a quality Arsene Wenger must surely be looking for, having had to deal with the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Adebayor over the last few years.

The forward also happens to be far more talented than those two and although maybe not in the same class as former skipper Robin van Persie, current favourite in the 2013/2014 top goalscorer football odds, he will certainly carry a similar goal threat to the Dutchman.

In buying Higuain, Arsenal would also possess a quality that they have dearly lacked over the last decade in that they will have signed someone who can not only contribute in general play, but also has the ability to score scruffy goals.

In recent years the Gunners have played some of the country’s most exciting football but have always lacked a genuine poacher to bundle the ball home.

If they can somehow hammer out a deal for the 25-year-old, they really could move to the next level and finally break their eight year trophy drought.
