Arsenal leaves it late for Everton’s Arteta

Arsenal have completed a move for Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta on a four-year deal after he asked to leave Everton.

The Gunners had seen a bid for Arteta rejected, with some suggesting a cash-plus-player offer was not what the Toffees wanted. But, facing a race against time to reach an agreement as they looked to bolster a midfield recently shorn of both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, Arsenal clinched the deal with minutes to spare before the deadline.

Meanwhile, Arsenal new boy Joel Campbell has been sent out on a season-long loan to FC Lorient, while fellow youngster Gilles Sunu joined the French club permanently, having spent the end of last term on loan there.
