Short of a keeper? Don’t think so…

imageThe gunners have seemed to be not making up to the mark since their last trophy as they are always left close to it, though remaining consistently in the Top-Four but the lack of the quality keeper has always been felt after the departure of the legendary Jens Lehmann. Most people think this reason really constitutes to the trophy drought but Arsene Wenger has always stuck with the lads he has got. He’s been reluctant to spend money in brining-in a quality shot-stopper. Arsenal have been sticking with their “Currently” number 1. Manuel Almunia, whose inconsistencies have been costing at times, though he’s a very good man [personally I like him as a person] but his performance have not always been up to the level which can push Arsenal to accomplish their mission in getting a trophy. There were number of times when Almunia proved he could be something special for Arsenal but still the need for the new No. 1 has been surrounding the Emirates.

Nevertheless, from time to time his injuries has led the youngsters to show the glimpse of their talent. In my opinion, this summer the fans must’ve got frustrated when Wenger left the opportunity to capture Mark Schwarzer from Fulham but he had other ideas in his mind. He knew he has got young talent who are ready to show their colors, keeping this in view he preferred not to waste money on the player who might be retiring after 2 or 3 seasons which I think was a better decision. As far as I saw, Arsenal’s Vito Mannone has always been in great shape but he lacks experience. On the other hand the Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański doesn’t lack in this area. He has been showing some great performances but had not been very consistent. However, he’s been performing very well lately in the absence of Manuel Almunia who is dealing with an elbow injury.

I think this was the right idea to give these young lads a chance to show their talent than to waste a huge amount money on some highly rated player who probably would last at Arsenal more than these young talents.
