The England international is sidelined since undergoing a hernia operation in August. He has missed several games for club and country but could return for Chelsea’s home clash against Sunderland on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti will be without Michael Essien who got a straight red card in their 1-0 win over Fulham yesterday. The Italian said,
“I think (Lampard) will be OK for Sunday. He started to train two days ago with the team.He doesn’t have a problem, is showing confidence. I hope he will be ready, not necessarily for 90 minutes, but just to be involved in the squad. If he’s OK, he can start. I don’t think he will be able to play 90 minutes, but he can play part of the game – he can do that.”
More good news for the Chelsea fans as Alex and Anelka, who missed the game against Fulham will be back at the weekend. He added:
“We don’t have big injuries. Anelka and Alex will be able to be involved in the next game. Lampard also. We just have (Yossi) Benayoun at this moment out.”
Chelsea have a 4 point lead over second placed Man Utd who could only draw at Eastlands yesterday.
