Chelsea needed a late winner from Florent Malouda to maintain their 100 percent record in the Champions League. But Ancelottic wasn’t impressed.
The Slovakian minnows MSK Zilina took the lead in the first half. Chelsea needed a response in the second half and it came from goals by Sturridge and Malouda.Having lost last two Premier League matches, it was important for Chelsea to get back to winning ways against Zilina. But even though they eventually won, manager Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t impressed by his side. He admitted Chelsea looked nothing like Champions League winners.
"If we play like we did in the first half, it will be impossible for us to win the Champions League, said the Italian.
"We didn’t start the game well and I was upset because of that. We played too slowly and I was disappointed because this was an important game and an important moment.
"I wanted to win and finish first but we didn’t play in that first half, we had no intensity or tempo.
"We changed things immediately in that second half, our behaviour changed, and we played well. We could have scored more and perhaps were unlucky but we have to be more focused and concentrated when it comes to shooting."
Stand in captain Didier Drogba insisted that it’s the players who are responsible for Chelsea’s dismal run. He said:
"The manager made it clear that he is here and I think we have to focus on the games, on the results. We have to try to resolve our problems because we are not playing well.
"We don’t speak about this speculation. We stayed focused on the game we lost against Birmingham. We wanted to go back to winning ways.
"Of course we miss Ray but the players are still the same. If we are losing it is not because Ray has gone, it is down to the players."
