Spurs keane on getting a new striker

Tottenham are looking to offload their Irish international Robbie Keane, as they join the race for signing Porto’s Falcao after already showing interest in Atletico Madrid star Diego Forlan.

Radamel Falcao

The Colombian striker Radamel Falcao is right now one of the hottest properties in European football and its no surprise that big clubs are chasing him after he has shown amazing form in the Portuguese League and Europa League, hittting 9 goals in 16 appearances. Spurs manager Harry Redknapp made no secret of his desire to bring in a striker during the summer with Brazilian Luis Fabiano high on his wish list. But after being priced out of a deal for Fabiano, Redknapp has turned his attentions elsewhere and, according to the Portuguese press, Falcao is one of his primary targets. With the striker’s current deal at Porto set to expire in 2013, Falcao’s current value is around £13m – but the Portuguese giants are desperate not to lose him and want to tie him down to a longer deal to ensure he does not leave on the cheap. Porto sources said: “We have not received any offers and we are calm. The sale of this player is not currently in our thoughts.”

Regarding Forlan, Atletico have continuously stated that the striker is not for sale but still top European clubs show their interest in the Uruguayan. Spurs made a summer enquiry for Diego Forlan but were put off by the £25m asking price. They may now look to invest that money into buying him after seeing their 4-man strikeforce fail, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane scoring just 2 goals in the Premier League this season.
