Mourinho pips Ferguson for Die Mannschaft’s rising star
As reported earlier on Football Realm and now confirmed, Real Madrid have captured Mesut Ozil on a six year deal from Werder Bremen for €15 million. The German international was a subject of constant speculation after Manchester United, Barcelona, Internazionale and Real Madrid all confirmed their interest.
However Real Madrid have won the race for the bug-eyed Turk-German, beating off competition from Manchester United and Inter Milan. Mesut’s father Mustafa Ozil confirmed earlier in the Turkish daily Hurriyet that Inter Milan had tabled a bid of €30 million but Mesut had his heart set on the nine time European Champions.
The transfer, subject to a medical, gained momentum when it was reported that Werder Bremen’s sporting director Klaus Allofs was intent on playing Ozil against Sampdoria in Bremen’s UEFA Champions League qualifier on Wednesday. Such a move would have cup-tied Ozil, a scenario Real Madrid wanted to avoid.
Ozil joins fellow German international Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu, following the footsteps of the great German players of the past Paul Breitner, Gunter Netzer, Uli Stielike and Bernd Schuster.
