Duo helps Birmingham to a come-back win (Highlights)

Craig Gardner was the goalscoring hero for Blues as Alex McLeish’s side came from behind to beat Blackburn 2-1 at St. Andrew’s this afternoon. While, Goal-keeper Ben Foster kept the Blues in the games with some fantastic saves including one off a penalty kick.

After a quite boring first half in which City were just the btter side, the game exploded into life in the second and Blackburn had a fantastic opportunity to take the lead when new Birmingham signing Nikola Zigic fouled Christopher Samba in the box. Pedersen stepped up to take the spot-kick but Ben Foster denied him with a spectacular save on 50 minutes.

But 4 minutes later Blues’ 15-match unbeaten home record came under threat when Steven Nzonzi diverted home a near-post header from Pedersen’s corner. But their lead lasted just 3 minutes as Craig Gardner tapped home a simple goal from a cross by James McFadden.

Blackburn did create some more chances but were unable to score as Ben Foster made some amazing saves and showed why he is regarded so highly in the Premier League. Rovers’ inefficiency to score made them pay as on the 71st minute Man of the Match, Gardner hit a powerful shot into the bottom-right corner of the net, which gave Blackburn keeper Robinson no chance, much to the delight of Birmingham manager Alex McLeish.

The win was Birmingham’s first of the season after drawing with Sunderland on the opening day of the season and it condemned Blackburn to their first defeat following their victory over Everton last weekend.
