What Money Cannot Buy?

Real Madrid are knocked out of the Champions League despite constant promises by the Director Florentino Perez.

Real Madrid spent a massive amount of money last summer bring in big names like the Portuguese Captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Frenchman Karim Benzema, Ex-Liverpool star midfielder Xabi Alonso and the Brazilian ace Ricardo Kaka’. Despite being the best and the most reputable team of Europe, Real have failed to meet the expectations of millions.

The director after making massive spendings of approximately 250 million euros, couldn’t keep the promise he made to the board, media and fans as Real Madrid failed to qualify for the Champions League quarter finals for the six successive year. This surely dented the reputation of a club like Real Madrid which has the most successful European History on their side.

On the other hand Lyon who were relatively a younger and inexperienced side showed a lot of commitment, professionalism, mental and physical strength and desire to be in the last 8. Although Madrid started off the game with killer instincts as they leveled 1–1 on aggregate through Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliance but from then onwards they failed to capitalize. Real’s frustration grew when 19 year old Bosnian attacking midfielder, Miralem Pjanic scored a stunner on Lisandro Lopez’s assist in the 75th minute which shattered the dream of the Galacticos as they found themselves out of time to make a comeback.

Despite throwing the aces in the form of the veteran Raul Gonzales, Pellegrini could not change the fate of Galacticos as they were humiliated by the young side on their home ground, Santiago Bernabeau where this year’s Champions League Final is set to take place.

I’m of the opinion that one has to believe that money can never buy the success . . . =)
