All eyes on Jose Mourinho

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez still hasn’t learned the lesson after crashing out of Champions League. Perez still believes that there money power and Galacticos approach can bring them success as he prepares for another big summer spending. This time Perez wants Jose Mourinho to rescue his €250 million project and it seems that Pellegrini will be just another victim of Perez’s wrath.

The 56-year old Chilean, had an excellent record in La Liga with Villareal for which he was chosen by Perez. The mission was to change the fate of the Galacticos and to win the Champions League in their home stadium, Santiago Bernabeau, this time around. Pellegrini produced decent results after taking his post at Real Madrid on June 2nd, 2009; as he competed head to head with the European Champions Barcelona and eventually came on level terms in the points table. Pellegrini has 70% success record at Madrid which is quite decent. Under his supervision Real Madrid played 35 games in all and managed to win 25 of them, drew 4 and lost 6.

But Pellegrini is now a subject of intense critism after failing to reserve a berth in the Quarters of Champions League despite having all the firepower on his side. This was the 6th successive year that Real Madrid have failed to progress into the Quarters of the Champions League which I believe, is a shame for a club like Real Madrid after spending heavily in summer.

Perez is certainly having a close eye on Mourinho’s relation with Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti which has deteriorated in recent months as he continues to rake the local media over the coals. Although Nerazzurri performed very well under Jose Mourinho and are heading close to retain their Seria A crown but doubts over Mourinho’s future at San Siro still persists. The 47-year old Portuguese tactician still believes his future lies with the Nerazzurri especially after beating 2-1 his former side Chelsea in the first leg of Champions League.

On the other hand, sources close to Mourinho have revealed Mourinho is already planning his exit. Mourinho has never masked his desire to return to England with Manchester United one of his preferred destinations. While Manchester City and Liverpool remain options, Real Madrid are now expected to make an early move for the former Chelsea manager according to the Media Sources.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan president Mossimo Moratti has already shortlisted Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc as a possible candidate for the hot seat. But Moratti might have to wait till the summers to recruit the highly-rated french tactician as the Special One’s successor.

It will be interesting to see if Mourinho can lead the Nerrazzuri to European glory and whether he chooses to stay. Without any doubt the Special One has special place in the hearts of Nerrazzuri fans and they dont want him to leave the club.
